Good morning. This is your Tesla Daily Update for Thursday, September tenth, twenty twenty-six.
Because this edition is arriving early in Asia, today's program focuses on the latest verified developments from Tuesday and Wednesday, rather than suggesting every story broke this morning.
First, Tesla is facing another difficult signal from China. Electrek reports that battery electric vehicle sales in the country increased during August, while vehicles with combustion engines declined. Tesla, however, recorded a third consecutive month of lower sales. The broader market is still moving toward fully electric cars, but Tesla is not capturing all of that growth. That contrast matters because China is both a major production base and one of Tesla's most competitive markets.
Second, a Cybercab rider discovered a virtual joystick on the vehicle's touchscreen. The purpose-built robotaxi has no permanent steering wheel or pedals, yet the interface appeared to provide a way to move the car manually by dragging a finger on the display. This does not establish how often the control will be available, who may use it, or whether it is intended only for service and recovery. Still, the discovery highlights the practical challenge of handling unusual situations in a vehicle designed around driverless operation.
Third, competition in humanoid robotics is becoming more concrete. XPeng says it has activated an automated production line for its IRON robot, with more than eighty percent of core processes automated, and is targeting mass production by the end of twenty twenty-six. Electrek contrasts that manufacturing claim with slower visible progress for Tesla's Optimus program. The comparison should be treated carefully because company definitions and production targets can differ, but it raises the pressure on Tesla to demonstrate repeatable manufacturing rather than only prototypes.
Turning to the market, Tesla shares edged slightly lower in the most recent trading session. The stock closed on Wednesday, September ninth, at three hundred sixty-seven dollars and eighty-one cents. That was down thirty-five cents, or about zero point one zero percent, from Tuesday's close of three hundred sixty-eight dollars and sixteen cents. The small move suggests investors balanced enthusiasm around Cybercab with concerns about vehicle demand and execution.
The key theme is delivery. Tesla has ambitious programs in robotaxis and robotics, but its position will depend on safety, regulation, manufacturing scale, and sustained vehicle demand.
That's all for today's Tesla update. Stay informed, and join us again tomorrow.
